Auckland stars in White Stripes DVD

BRIDGET JONES

Auckland will be the star of a new DVD from The White Stripes, due to be released this month.

According to music website Pitchfork, the footage will be part of a bonus DVD package titled Under New Zealand Lights, released alongside the 12th instalment of the Vault subscription series from singer Jack White's Third Man record label.

Made up of two separate Auckland performances, the DVD will feature footage from their shows at the Kings Arms in November 2000, which is some of the earliest footage of the band outside of the States, and a later "sweet, innocent" performance at Freeman's Bay Primary School.

The American duo performed the secret show in front of students at the Auckland school in October 2003.

Jack and Meg White disbanded the Grammy Award-winning group in February 2011, after releasing six studio albums.

The duo, known for their red, white and black colour scheme and modern take on blues rock, toured New Zealand early in their career, as well appearing twice at the Big Day Out.
