Bollywood star kidnapped, beheaded

A Bollywood actress was allegedly murdered by two aspiring actors, who tried to extort $35,000 from her family before strangling and beheading her and dumping her body in a water tank in India.

Amit Jaiswal, 36, and his girlfriend Preeti Surin are accused of inviting actress Meenakshi Thapar on a trip to Gorakhpur, a city near India's border with Nepal, where they held her hostage, London's Daily Telegraph reported.

Police said the couple sent a message to Ms Thapar's parents warning them the actress would be forced to do pornographic films if the family did not pay them 1.5 million rupees (NZ$35,370).

The couple, who had fled to Mumbai to try and find Bollywood stardom when Jaiswal's wife found out about their affair, allegedly became jealous after hearing 26-year-old Thapar boast about her family's wealth.

Thapar's mother transferred 60,000 rupees into her account for the kidnappers to withdraw, but she was killed soon after, the newspaper reported.

Parts of her body were allegedly dumped in two different places as the couple made their way back to Mumbai, with her torso being dropped into a water tank.

The couple put her head in a bag and threw it out the window of the city-bound bus, police said.

A detective investigating Thapar's death told the newspaper: "They wanted to extort money from her family. They have confessed to the crime.

"She was strangulated in a hotel and her body was hacked into pieces and thrown in a water tank. They threw her head from a moving bus while travelling back to Mumbai."

Ms Thapar had starred in a horror film called 404 last year and met her alleged killers on the set of her latest film Heroine.
