LITTLE INSPIRATIONS: Darcy Lawrey, left, Matt Lawrey, Miro Lawrey and artist Peter Lole.
Today Stuff adds another cartoon to its collection - one that celebrates small moments of parenthood that both baffle and make it all worthwhile.
The Little Things, written by Matt Lawrey and illustrated by Peter Lole, is a collection of musings on the wacky, bewildering and downright strange things that happen in the lives of parents on a daily basis.
Lawrey is a father of two, and a reporter and photographer for a Nelson community newspaper. Lole, a father of three, is a freelance illustrator and artist, also based in Nelson.
Lawrey said he needed look no further than his own brood for inspiration in creating the cartoon.
He got the idea one day while drinking beer and watching his young sons doing the crazy sorts of things little kids do.
''Whenever people ask me where the ideas come from I just point at our kids.
''Although increasingly readers are coming to us with ideas of their own,'' Lawrey said.
With a topic parents the world over can relate to, The Little Things is already an international success.
It is published in newspapers in New Zealand and Australia, and is being launched next month in the United Kingdom.
''Being a parent is the greatest experience you can have as a human being but it can also be full-on," Lawrey said.
"The Little Things is there to provide parents with a bit of solidarity and to remind them that while being a mum or dad can be hard work, it can also be a lot of fun.''
